Megan Humphries has served as assistant principal at Vestavia Hills Elementary West since the 2024-2025 school year. She has years of experience at West as a third grade teacher. Drawing from her background in professional learning teams and co-teaching environments, Humphries champions the notion that students thrive when educators collaborate and combine their knowledge and expertise.
Humphries has held various leadership roles in the district including the role of New Teacher Mentor, Teacher Leader, and Instructional Coach. She has led professional development in the district on the topics of technology, teacher collaboration, language arts, and math. She previously served on VHCS Foundation Board of Directors and Character.org National School of Character application team. She strives to instill in all students the values of the West Way: Kindness, Respect, and Responsibility, fostering a culture of integrity and compassion.
In 2019, Humphries was awarded the Rotary Teacher of the Year at Vestavia Hills Elementary West. She was recently named the Vestavia Hills Elementary West 2022-2023 Teacher of the Year and the Vestavia Hills City Schools 2022-2023 District Elementary Teacher of the Year. Humphries received her Bachelor’s Degrees in Early Childhood and Elementary Education from the University of Alabama at Birmingham. She received her Master’s Degree in Instructional Leadership from the University of Montevallo. She currently resides in Birmingham with her husband, Chris, and her two sons, Henry and Jack.
